We went over today to look at the floors since the finish coat of varathane has been applied and had a chance to dry completely. The entire floor in all of the rooms has bubbled! The floors are beautiful and shiny and filled with bubbles when the light hits just right.

We’re completely heartbroken.

It isn’t the end of the world; we can sand the finish down smooth and re-apply. In the whole house. First we have to figure out what caused the bubbling. We followed the directions exactly and used the recommended applicators. I guess we’ll do some research on the internet and talk to some professionals.

So now we’re faced with the dilemma of putting off the move until next month so we can fix the floors before moving, or moving in and fixing the floors one room at a time after we’re moved (which means moving all of the furniture out of the room redoing that floor and then 3 or 4 days later moving the furniture back in and then moving on to the next room). I imagine we’ll do the later, even though that will be much more difficult in the long run. I don’t think we could keep up doing what we’re doing for that much longer, its just too exhausting.

I’m going to go somewhere quiet and cry.
